Nancy never questioned why they had to relocate - not after Don suggested that she read his favorite author, Ayn Rand.

"I read her and all of a sudden I understood," Nancy says.

Rand's philosophy of individual responsibility and minimal government interference struck a chord with the libertarian-minded Panoz. Years later, he named his principal company Fountainhead Development after "The Fountainhead," her novel about an architect who refuses to compromise his vision. Panoz keeps the book in his office and gave copies of Rand's other opus, "Atlas Shrugged," to his children when he thought they were old enough to understand.

Wow, I had no idea that a man involved in the rational world of chemistry could believe in such nonsense from a sociopathic hypocrite whose writing ability is on par with the abilities of the tweens her justification for selfishness would naturally appeal to. For a man who would claim to hate socialism, he certainly benefitted from Ireland and spend a lot of time in Europe. But then, Rand zealots only want what they want logic be damned. Oh well, not everyone is willing to grow up and face reality as it truly is when being emotionally invested in a comforting delusion feels so much better.

What does Ireland and socialism have to do with Ayn Rand?

Like Ayn Rand being a hypocrite who sucked on the gub'mint teet as soon as it benefitted her, Don made his fortune living a socialist country. The idea of "the free market" is for the little suckers dumb enough to believe in an economic religion that doesn't work for the majority. Realistic businessmen say whatever makes them money wherever they can make the money but to believe the tripe of a hypocritical sociopath is a laughable step too far.

The fact of reality is most humans don't care about economic religions be they Libertarian delusions or Communist ones that don't deal with reality either. Socialism to some degree is the choice of the majority of humans who have to live and operate in reality. We've seen the world that Ayn Rand promoted - it was called the Dark Ages in Europe.

This seems pretty strident to me unless you have an unusually large iron in this fire. Many people of Ayn Rand's generation did not take kindly to an income tax, much less forced retirement contribution. Many of the same view it as only just that they should at least get back the money they were forced to pay. I don't know that taking social security invalidates an entire life.

As for Don, maybe the company that employed him should have listened and he would never have taken his ball somewhere else to play. That happens all the time. If you have to do it yourself, you look to see who's going to give you the best deal. It's business, and often enough businesses are so short-sighted they don't recognize an opportunity when it smacks them in the face.

Actually, I find the Rand cult members to be the strident ones. But then, religious fanatics of all stripes tend to be strident toward all those who don't validate their comforting delusions. The masses prefer to live in Plato's Cave because its "safe".

Only the rich white people cared. The masses love socialism because it works for the masses instead of only for the plutocrats. As soon as Rand need gub'mint aid, she was right there with her hand out ready to get her's which proves my point about the dumb suckers who actually believe in the lie of "the free market". The elites really don't care WHERE their money comes from only so long as they get it. Its all about them getting their way.

Which is why business should never be trusted...well, just because they are businesses. Of course people go where they can get the best deal. Corporations may be people now but they certainly aren't American citizens with a shred of patriotism. The universe is indifferent to the hopes, wants, needs of humans and I find it harmful to just acquiesce to the stupidity of lies of any religion proven to be without merit. I feel the same way about Communism as I feel about Libertarianism - both use lies and ignore human nature/history in order to protect their failed religions.

But, Don/Danny aren't talkers like you'll see so many fakers with fantasies posted on World Car Fans/Jalopnik/Autoblog/etc. They built cars and for that, they have my respect. After all, I still would like to have a Panoz Esperante if its clear to be imported here to Japan.
